The Project - ‘Cinema In Layers’ located in the centre of Cambridge aims to bring back the experience of going to the cinema and celebrates the unique arches around Cambridge. Throughout the project I developed plans/sections through making models consisting of a series of layers slotted together. With the idea of using CLT sheets that slot together in a grid formation. The building itself is wrapped in a arched walkway which leads to an external box office, creating nostalgia.
The building contains two cinema spaces - one traditional intimate one and a 'open air' cinema with seating on the staircase to create a more atmospheric space with views of the screen from different areas of the building. The building has a grand ceiling with arch cut outs to add to the atmosphere.
